What is Microneedling and how does it work?

Microneedling skin treatmentsWhat is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment for the improvement of skin conditions. It is most commonly used to reduce wrinkles, acne scarring, rosacea, hyper-pigmentation and stretch marks.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling works by introducing tiny punctures into the skin, this increases blood flow to the area which promotes the production of neocollagen ( new collagen) Collagen is the protein which gives the skin its strength and elasticity. With age the production of collagen is dramatically reduced resulting in wrinkles and loss of elasticity, the classic visible signs of ageing. Microneedling is also widely used to treat acne and acne scarring. It works by stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin which help reduce the appearance of scarring.

Treatment Options

Dermaroller
Topical anaesthetic is recommended for this treatment. This can be used for the face where the scarring is very deep and is more suitable for larger areas such as the upper and lower body and limbs.

A dermaroller is a cylindrical drum shaped device which is symmetrically covered with microneedles. The device creates superficial breaks in the skin as it is rolled on to the skin surface. This stimulates the growth of collagen fibres beneath the skin in the dermal layer.

Dermafix

An automated pen device. Topical anaesthetic is not necessary for this treatment. The automated pen device, stimulates the growth of collagen fibres by creating superficial breaks in the skin. These tiny channels created by the pen device increases the absorption of products into the skin by 80%.

Benefits of Microneedling?

Due to the protective function of the skin as a barrier a majority of skincare products are unable to penetrate through the outer most layer of the skin (stratum corneum) approximately 99.7% of all skincare products are lost as their molecular size are too large to penetrate through the skin. Overall, only 0.3%of the applied nutritive elements can infiltrate into the skin.

Therefore, to solve this problem and increase penetration, microneedle rollers are designed to create physical pathways through the skin to increase permeability These tiny channels created by the pen device allows up to 80% delivery of active ingredients.

We offer Microneedling in Chichester, Worthing and Burnham clinics. As well as LED therapy treatments.
